Template:Hulu/doc
This is a documentation subpage for Template:Hulu (see that page for the template itself). It contains usage information, categories and other content that is not part of the original template page. |
This is a template to generate links to Hulu.
Options
The required parameter is just the ID -- that portion of the URL that comes after "http://www.hulu.com/". (for backward compatibility, the parameter can be named id
) and the template then uses the article title as the anchor text:
* {{hulu|ID}}
To have the link text be other than the article name, use second parameter (for backward compatibility, it can be named name
):
* {{hulu|ID|Name}}
This can be used when the Wikipedia page name contains disambiguation brackets; for example at the page Free Money (film) use {{hulu|free-money|Free Money}} to have "Free Money at Hulu" rather than "Free Money (film) at Hulu". This is also necessary should you need to add an Hulu link to an article about somebody or something other than the linked video (for example, if you include the Hulu link for Free Money (film) in the Charlie Sheen article, you must specify "Free Money" as the text for the link using this option).
Note that the options include the "*" for a bulleted list since this is most likely to be used in an "External links" section.
Detailed instructions
- Copy and paste one of the options above into the article
- Go to http://www.hulu.com and navigate to the desired page. This can be the main page for a television series (http://www.hulu.com/the-office), a full-length movie (http://www.hulu.com/planet-of-the-apes), or a full-length television episode (http://www.hulu.com/watch/7182/the-riches-pilot).
- Copy only the portion after http://www.hulu.com/ in the URL (for example, "
the-office
", "planet-of-the-apes
", or "watch/7182/the-riches-pilot
"). - Replace "ID" in the template code with this value.
- You'll then have, for example,
- *{{hulu|the-office}}
- resulting in:
- Hulu/doc at Hulu
- Note that the link text is the same as the title of the page the template is used on; if you wish to rename the link, use the second parameter:
- For example, replace "Name" with "The Office". Then
- *{{hulu|the-office|The Office}}
- results in:
- The Office at Hulu
This template is based on the {{imdb name}} template, so if you still have any doubts or questions about the use of the template, you can ask at User talk:Kieff, who wrote the {{imdb name}} template, or at User talk:Mareino, who rewrote the IMDB template for hulu.
