This is a documentation subpage for Template:Wi (see that page for the template itself). It contains usage information, categories and other content that is not part of the original template page. |
- For discussion and queries, see template talk:Wi.
This template is only for dictionary definitions that currently exist on Wiktionary and which, due to previous re-creations, are likely to be re-created in unencyclopedic form. Do not place it on every possible word. This template is a self-reference and so is part of the Wikipedia project rather than the encyclopaedic content.
Usage
- {{wi}} {{subst:longcomment}}
- Provides a soft redirect to the Wiktionary page, using the current page's name. Then it also substitutes a {{longcomment}} to prevent a page from being listed on Special:Shortpages.
Important: Check the link before using this method, as Wiktionary uses proper capitalization for its entries, unlike Wikipedia's uppercased first letter or page name.
- {{wi|{{PAGENAME}}}} {{subst:longcomment}}
- Provides a link to the Wiktionary page for the given word.
- {{wi|sophisticated|protected=yes}}
- Used for protected pages to suppress the "edit this page" link.
- {{wi|Category:English idioms|many=yes}}
- Used for pages linking to lists or categories on Wiktionary.
Notes:
- This template should not be used via substitution in most cases.
- This template will categorise tagged articles into Category:Redirects to Wiktionary.
